Through years of urban life far from the mountain vistas of my childhood I have learned to spot en-chantment wherever it appears — tree shadows shuffling on a bedroom wall, a strip of sunlight suddenly reflecting off a car’s windscreen onto my office ceiling. I’m aware that one can be blind to these won-ders, awareness dulled by ever-present technological marvels, but I persist in finding them and in trying to show what I’m seeing. In this ongoing series, bands of brightness move in swaths across a translucent screen the size of a monitor. Hidden transparent materials reflect available light and are connected to external “feelers” which respond to ambient air. The action is live. No need to check the resolution: changes in air movement keep the materials in motion and need not be upgraded. But it is subtle, this broadcast, best glimpsed on a shadowy wall where nothing seems to be happening. That’s the magic of it.
