Pierre-François Ouelllette art contemporain (Montreal) is delighted to present the European premiere of the video by Chih-Chien Wang entitled Avellaneda at the 5th edition of the LOOP video art fair ( http://www.loop-barcelona.com/ ) .
The video was first shown in 2008 in the exhibition The Québec Triennial: Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal. It has since entered the permanent collection of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montreal.
The fair, which runs from May 20-22, 2010 in Barcelona is one of the premiere worldwide venues for the presentation of new video work. This will be the fifth consecutive year that the gallery has participated in the fair having previously premiered new videos by Adad Hannah, Michel de Broin and Isabelle Hayeur.

AVELLANEDA
In Avellaneda, two groups of people gather around an old factory in Buenos Aires. Inside, the factory is flooded. Four people prepare to enter the water-filled space; they stand in the middle and sing. Outside the factory, a group of theatre people talk about their environment, their city and the fact that it has snowed for the first time in eighty-nine years. They also talk about their mission to improve patients’ rights at the hospital.
The project shows people inside and outside a space—gathering, leaving and gathering again. Not solely concerned with issues brought up in their discussions or in the songs, the project illustrates connections among the people: how they move among each other, and how the group, as a whole, re-forms itself.
Artist Statement:
My art practice involves the presentation of found objects and the process of collecting or recreating them. This process builds up my understanding of the living space and the cultural diversity of the city. These concerns also resemble my understanding of people, reflect the place I live in, and reveal my doubt about the self.

"En Avellaneda, dos grupos de personas se reúnen junto a una vieja fábrica en Buenos Aires. En su interior, la fábrica está inundada. Cuatro personas se preparan para entrar en el espacio lleno de agua; se colocan en el medio y se ponen a cantar. En el exterior de la fábrica, un grupo de gente de teatro habla de su entorno, de su ciudad y del hecho de que ha nevado por primera vez en 89 años. También hablan de su misión dirigida a incrementar los derechos de los pacientes en el hospital.
El proyecto muestra a personas dentro y fuera de un espacio, reuniéndose, marchándose y volviendo a reunirse. El proyecto ilustra las conexiones existentes entre las personas, no sólo en relación con las cuestiones que surgen en sus discusiones o en sus canciones: cómo se mueven entre los demás y la forma en que, como grupo, se vuelve a formar.
Declaración del artista:
Mi práctica artística aborda la presentación de objetos encontrados y el proceso de recogerlos o recrearlos. Dicho proceso desarrolla mi comprensión del espacio vivo y la diversidad cultural de la ciudad. Estas cuestiones también están relacionadas con mi comprensión de las personas, reflejan el lugar donde vivo y revelan mis dudas sobre el yo. "
