Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain is delighted to present the European premiere of Kent Monkman's video Dance to Miss Chief at the 9th edition of the LOOP video art fair. This special presentation is in parallel with Monkman's exhibition The Atelier running until June 25th at Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain in Montreal.
This invitational fair, which runs from May 19-21, 2011 in Barcelona is one of the premiere worldwide venues for the presentation of new video work and has become the international meeting point for video art professionnals and collectors. It will be the sixth consecutive invitation received by the gallery which last year presented Avellaneda by Chih-Chien Wang.

En su más reciente video, Dance to Miss Chief (Baile para Miss Chief), Kent Monkman opone la idealización que da el cine de los indígenas de América a la atitud controladora y sensual de su alter ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle (Miss Testículos Jefe Águila ). Jennifer López y Cher, ¡quítense! Aqui tienen a Miss Chief Eagle Testickle con un nuevo y sexy video de su exitosa pieza «Dance to Miss Chief» – una divertida crítica de la fascinación que ejercen los « Indios » de Norteamérica sobre los alemanes, ¡y les garantizamos que los hará levantarse y mover la cadera! Este remix de material viejo y contemporáneo celebra el romance que tiene Miss Chief con un protagonista masculino, Winnetou, un « indio » imaginario, típico de los western a la alemana, los de Karl May.
Kent Monkman es un artista de origen cree. Trabaja con una multitud de medios. Sus obras han sido presentadas en exposiciones monográficas en el Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal y en la Stephen Friedman Gallery de Londres. Su trabajo también ha figurado en numerosas muestras temáticas entre las cuales las siguientes: Remix: New Modernities in a Post Indian World en la Art Gallery of Ontario; Steeling the Gaze: Portraits by Aboriginal Artists en la National Gallery of Canada; We Come in Peace: Histories of the Americas en el Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal; The American West en Compton Verney, Inglaterra. En le 2010, participó en la Bienal de Sydney y en el verano 2011 hará parte de la muestra My Winnipeg en La Maison Rouge de París.

In his recent video work Dance to Miss Chief, Kent Monkman pits the idealization of Native Americans in cinema against the control and sensuality of Monkman's postcolonial alter-ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle. Move over J.Lo and Cher! Miss Chief Eagle Testickle has a new sexy video of her club track: "Dance to Miss Chief" - a playful critique of the German fascination with North American "Indians" that is guaranteed to make you want to get up and shake your booty! This remix of contemporary and vintage footage celebrates Miss Chief's on-screen romance with leading man, Winnetou, a fictitious "Indian" from Karl May's German Westerns.
