Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain is proud to have been invited to NEXT - the invitational exhibition of emerging art, a fair organized by Christian Viveros-Fauné and Kavi Gupta in the context of ART CHICAGO 2008 that will take place from April 25 to 28, 2008 (www.nextartfair.com). NEXT celebrates emerging artists that merit attention on the international scene and we are honoured to present the newest works by Dil Hildebrandand Kent Monkman.
Born in 1965, Kent Monkman is an artist of Cree ancestry who works with a variety of mediums, including painting, film/video, performance and installation. He has had solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art, Walter Phillips Gallery, and the Indian Art Centre. The solo exhibition organized by the Art Gallery of Hamilton will travel to additional venues like the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Monkman has participated in various international group exhibitions including: “We come in peace…” Histories of the Americas, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and The American West, at Compton Verney, in Warwickshire, England and in "ReMix" at the Heard Museum. His award-winning short film and video works have been screened at various national and international festivals, including the 2006 Berlinale. His work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Museum London, The Mackenzie Art Gallery, the Woodland Cultural Centre, the Indian Art Centre, and the Canada Council Art Bank. His works will be presented in New York next June at the National Museum of the American Indian as part of "ReMix" and at the Art Gallery of Mississauga as of July 17.
Born in Winnipeg, Dil Hildebrand works and lives in Montreal where he just completed his Master in Fine Arts at Concordia University. He is the recipient of the prestigious prize of the Royal Bank of Canada Painting Competition. His first solo at Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain was was selected as one of the 10 best exhibitions in Canada in 2007 by Richard Rhodes, editor of Canadian Art. A review of the exhibition will be published in the next issue of Canadian Art. He recently participated in group exhibitions at Récemment the St-Paul Street Gallery in Auckland (Australia) and at the Galerie de l'Université du Québec à Montréal. His works are in major corporate collections in Canada and in the public collections of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal and the Art Bank of the Canada Council.
