About the gallery

 

Pierre-François Ouellette art contemporain (PFOAC) is a private gallery that has, since 2001, been dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art. Located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, the building houses exhibition spaces on the first floor, including a room for video art programming, and spaces on the second floor for showcasing the artists represented. PFOAC is renowned for the innovative work of the artists it represents - multidisciplinary artists in a variety of media, from video to painting, sculpture to photography, among others. The gallery also participates in art fairs in Canada and abroad. The gallery uses the artlogic platform for integrated database management, website management, billing and business development (contact management and marketing).

The position

 

PFOAC is looking for a dynamic individual with management and organizational skills, a good knowledge of the contemporary art world, an interest in artists' career development and the art market, the ability to work as part of a team and to deal with the unexpected and changes in the context of a small cultural business, and the ability to exercise discretion and discernment. The Coordinator supports the Director/Owner in achieving the company's artistic and business objectives. 

 

Job duties

 

- Logistics and management of gallery operations (follow-up with artists, suppliers of framing, installation services and transportation of works; inventory management, etc.).

- Business development (preparation of presentation files, updating of target audience databases, client development, consulting, sales, invoicing and client follow-up - visitors, private collectors, public and corporate collections)

- Contribution to communication and engagement strategies, production of visual and textual content and management of various platforms, website and social networks; descriptions about works of art

- Public relations: mediation of exhibitions and fair presentations, welcoming the public, preparing press kits and following up with journalists, columnists, critics and authors

- Participation in planning, organizing and attending fairs

- Preparation of artists' presentation files for recognition awards, competitions, public calls for collections and SODEC and CAC grant applications

- Participation in exhibition production (assistance with planning, logistics, installation, launch, dismantling, etc.)

- All other related tasks linked to the development and smooth running of the company

 

Knowledge and skills 

 

- University degree in art history, museology, communications, arts management or equivalent

- Gallery experience in a similar role is an asset

- Excellent knowledge of Quebec, Canadian and international contemporary art

- Experience in social media management (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)

- Strong writing and editing skills in French and English

- Knowledge of Mac environment, Adobe, Microsoft (Word, Excel)

- Experience in database management, inventory, contacts, accounting and billing - knowledge of artlogic software is desirable

- Ability to learn new software

- Experience in art handling

- Excellent oral and written skills in French and English

- Experience in art sales and public relations/communications

- Excellent organizational and management skills, overseeing schedules and tasks

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Efficiency and ability to self-manage and prioritize tasks

- Attention to detail, thoroughness and critical thinking skills

 

Conditions

 

Regular full-time position

Annual salary $40,000 - $50,000 plus commission (salary range according to experience)

Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (requires occasional flexibility during evenings and trade shows)

Workplace: 963 Rachel East, Montreal

Working languages: French and English

Start date: as soon as possible
