The City of Montreal's public art collection is enriched by a work of public art at Montreal City Hall.

Ce que nous avons laissé derrière nous aide à avancer by Chih-Chien Wang.

This work of public art is part of a major construction and renovation project at the municipal building in the Ville-Marie borough. It was produced in accordance with the Quebec government's Politique d'intégration des arts à l'architecture et à l'environnement des bâtiments et des sites gouvernementaux et publics.

Comprising five printed glass panels, Ce que nous avons laissé derrière nous aide à avancer presents photographs of a hand interacting with plants often described as weeds (bindweed, sow thistle and ragweed). These images evoke the questions the artist asks herself about the plants she sees in her garden: “Is democracy a garden in which weeds have a place? From what point of view should we view them? That of a human or that of a bee or a goat?”
