    Mark Clintberg

    We are very pleased to have Mark Clintberg in Montreal for the next few months as part of his sabbatical year as a professor at the Alberta University of Arts. We were able to host him at various times during Portal 2, his solo exhibition at the gallery and for meetings with the public. Learn more about the exhibition through our online videos. Mark will also be collaborating this fall with the Archives Gaies du Québec.

    Luc Courchesne

     Luc Courchesne, recipient of the 2021 Governor General's Award in Media Arts, will be working on a new virtual reality project this fall as artist-in-residence at Q21 in Vienna 

     

    "Wien Chiaroscuro" will be an immersive VR experience constructed in the Ephemeral Ontologies (EO) authoring framework. 

     

    The project is to document today's Viennese society through interviews with people and visits of the places they inhabit. The collected stories will connect these people and places (present) with their origins (past) and their expectations (future). His objective  to poetically expose diverse life trajectories in a chiaroscuro mode, at the frontiers of hopes and fears, of past and future, of light and darkness.

     

     

    The creation of the Wien Chiaroscuro corpus of assets will use the usual image and sound capture tools and 3D renderers: cameras (rectangular, spherical, etc); sound recorders (stereo, ambisonic, etc); 3D capture processes (photogrammetry, point cloud, etc). This corpus, collected in November 2021, will then be imported in the EO realtime authoring framework to be assembled and form explorable architectures. These will expose a diversity of points of views and of perspectives on who we are and where we are in the world today.

    Jérôme Fortin

    Professor of visual arts and director of the department at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, Jérôme Fortin will continue his research in printmaking in the newly re-launched studio at his college. The public will be able to discover his new monotypes at the Foire Papier in November. There will be a surprise reference to Fortin's work in Julie Snyder's program Le Jour J on noovo.ca

    Karilee Fuglem

    Karilee Fuglem won the competition for the creation of a work of art for the renovation and expansion of the Octagon Library in the LaSalle borough of the City of Montreal. Discover the concepts of this work entitled "En circulation" which will be inaugurated in 2023 by clicking here. Also, a work by the artist has just been acquired for the Collection d'oeuvres du Sud-Ouest and is currently on display at the Maison Marie-Uguay until December 15, 2021. Finally, watch for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts' Gala Auction: Karilee has generously donated a work that is not to be missed.

    In addition to teaching at Concordia University, Dil is working intensely in the studio to prepare for his solo exhibition of new paintings at the gallery in the spring of 2022!

    John's new photographic work will be unveiled this fall at POP UP @ Stephen Bulger Gallery and in the meantime you can see a text-based work in Owen Sound in the exhibition "the nature of it: recent acquisitions" at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery. You can even see it virtually here.

    Meryl McMaster

    Meryl's solo exhibition at the McCord ended last August, but a nice article about it just appeared in CV Photo. She is currently participating in the Ballarat International Foto Biennale entitled "We Will Eventually Return to the Earth" in Ballarat, Australia and will be participating in the important exhibition "True Pictures? Contemporary Photography from Canada and the US" at the Sprengel Museum in Hannover, Germany starting November 6th. Her work Edge of a Moment is currently on view in the contemporary art galleries of the National Gallery of Canada and a large exterior version of What Will I Say to the Sky and the Earth II at Harbourfront in Toronto.

    Marie-Jeanne Musiol

    Marie-Jeanne Musiol is presenting several series of works in a large exhibition currently on view at the New Tretyakov Gallery, the contemporary arm of the Tretyakov Museum in Moscow. In Living Matter, Marie-Jeanne's work is shown alongside Russian and international artitis. This exhibition which runs until October 10, 2021, is dedicated to the planetary ecosystem considered as "living matter" in the perspective of the Russian scientist Vladimir Vernadsky (1863-1945). More than 22 works by Musiol were selected by the curators of the exhibition and are on display. We, at PFOAC, are very proud of this new achievement by Marie-Jeanne whose work is also presented currently in Ecologies. A Song for Our Planet at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

    Roberto Pellegrinuzzi

    Roberto is working on projects integrating art with architecture and is preparing to reassemble the 275,000 photographs in "Memories" for an exhibition at the Aga Khan Museum next year. His work will also be featured in an outdoor exhibition of 16 photographs from the "Resonances" series on panels by the village lake at the Centre d'exposition du Vieux-Presbytère in St-Bruno-de-Montarville beginning in January 2022.

    Ed Pien

    While focusing on the upcoming solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario and several other research projects, Ed has also produced with the gallery new wall scuptures to be unveiled at Art Toronto. His work can be seen in France in the exhibition "Nouer Le Reste" at CEAAC, Centre d'art, as part of a partnership between CEAAC, the University of Strasbourg and the three FRACs of the Grand Est, in "Relations : Diaspora & Painting" at the Esker Foundation in Calgary, on the impressive video wall overlooking Queen and Bay Streets in the TD Bank Collection, and in the exhibition There and Then at the Oakville Galleries.

    This fall, in addition to his position as a professor of photography at Concordia University, Chih-Chien is participating in the project Group C - This Should Have Been Done A Long Time Ago at the Janine-Sutto House of Culture. A beautiful article by Sylvain Campeau appeared earlier this year in Ciel Variable entitled "Don d'images". You can still see the works displayed in large format in the outside project of Mona Hakim and Adélard in Freligshburg and Durham until December 21, 2021

    Ripley is teaching for the first time this fall at Austin Peay State University as well as Middle Tennessee State University. He is showing work in the exhibition 'Artist Books and Sketchbooks' at PS 118 in Durham, North Carolina through November 6.
