These paintings belong to a recent series of explorations into painting on transparent panels. The process of making this work is uniquely different than traditional painting, because each artwork comprises 3 acrylic panels sandwiched together. In the studio, each of the 3 layers was painted, back and front, and then layered with other panels. The final paintings result in a uniquely deep image.
The paintings are hung on powder-coated steel pegs, in the manner of paper pads that are hinged at the top. Since the panels are glued with an archival adhesive, they cannot be separated. The paper pad effect is meant to point to the collage-like manner in which the works are painted.
