C’est en contrepoids avec ma pratique socialement engagée en vidéo et en lien avec mes observations des détails, formes, textures de tous les jours, ainsi que le mémoire de la maison de ma grand-mère et ma fascination pour les miniatures persanes (Gol o Morgh - trad. Fleur et oiseau) que je débute une pratique de dessin où j’observe, j’échantillonne, je rassemble et j’invente un monde ambigu, créant un effet d’entre-deux ; entre figuration et abstraction, dedans et dehors, haut et bas, ici et là.
Dans cette série de dessin, on perçoit des objets rapportés d’Iran représentant des oiseaux, la figure importante de l’art, la littérature et la culture perse, combinés à un environnement texturé des fleurs et plantes trouvées et photographiées sur mon chemin ici à Montréal. La rencontre des deux mondes fait partie de ma position irano-canadienne et résonne dans cet extrait d’un poème de Rumi :

Je ne suis ni d’Orient ni d’Occident, ni de la terre, ni de la mer.
J’ai abdiqué la dualité, j’ai vu que les deux mondes ne sont qu’un.

It is in counterbalance to my socially engaged video practice and in connection with my observations of everyday details, shapes, textures, as well as the memory of my grandmother's house and my fascination with Persian miniatures (Gol o Morgh - transl. Flower and Bird) that I begin a drawing practice where I observe, sample, gather and invent an ambiguous world, creating an in-between effect; between figuration and abstraction, in and out, up and down, here and there.
In this series of drawings, one perceives objects brought back from Iran representing birds, the important figure of Persian art, literature and culture, combined with a textured environment of flowers and plants found and photographed on my way here in Montreal. The meeting of the two worlds is part of my Iranian-Canadian position and resonates in this excerpt from a poem by Rumi:

I am neither of the East nor the West, neither of the land nor the sea.
I have abdicated duality, I have seen that the two worlds are one.
